Summer and Fall EP
This record makes the most sense when listened to in the late months of summer and the first of fall in the green and yellow hill-country of Central Texas. Originally made as demos for what was to be the original band called 'Arkay', Arkay became something else and these songs were lost. Their only circulation happened through CD-Rs and tapes that were copied and passed along throughout Austin in 2001 and 2002 until this ep was released in this form in 2003.
While this EP does not quite totally fit into Books Died On's later concept-albums-only model, each is a snapshot of a few days in the hot days of summer and fall of 2001.
Lyrics:
1 – In The Beginning...
...God created the heavens and the earth.
2 – Jump Headlong
Heed my advice. Bring it On.
Let it come to you. When and where and how?
don’t seek it out. I’m looking for a role.
At that point you will know that everything is wrong.
I’ve been something so much older, my days are going by much faster.
I can tell you a thing or two; you best listen, you best hear me.
(Give yourself a break)
I think its time you forget about this song.
Excuse me, sir, I can’t help but sing along.
Excuses mainly lead to apathy.
These excuses are keeping me sane.
Sanity is gone. It slipped away.
Jump headlong into oncoming cars.
I’ve been something so much older, my days are going by much faster.
I can tell you a thing or two; you best listen, you best hear me.
(Give yourself a break)
Now hear this, just give it up.
I’m done getting talked down to from you.
I’ve been something so much older, my days are going by much faster.
I can tell you a thing or two; you best listen, you best hear me.
(Give yourself a break)
Calm down.
3 – Everything: So Perfect
Come to sleep.
Say to us, I’m home.
Everything so perfect, everything’s in order.
Everything’s so clean.
Everything’s so lonely in this little scene.
Time and time to...
4 – Fall to Sleep
Fall to sleep, all these children thinking something I can win.
Fall in time, all these children thinking I can field them in.
Fall in line, all these children thinking I can keep them warm.
Fall to sleep, all these people thinking I’m not on their mind.
What to do? Can you help me?
I’ve got no time to be here.
Fall in line. All these children thinking I can count past ten.
Fall in time, but you’re not hungry but just trying to fit in.
What to do? Can you help me?
I’ve got no time to be here.
5 – Summer and Fall
‘The death of a season happens when we all bake in the heat of its last life.’
